Preparing for an appointment

Modified on Thu, 10 Sep at 5:38 PM

The questions you meant to ask are the ones that go missing in the room. Ten minutes at the kitchen table the night before fixes most of that.

The evening before

  1. On the home screen, open Prepare.
  2. Start a new discussion, choose the room it belongs to — at the doctor — and give it a name. Dr Bennett, or just the date.
  3. Add the things they want to say or ask, one at a time. The new tablets make me dizzy. Can I have the results in writing?

Write them in your own language. Loquela produces the other side when they are used.

On the day

Open the room as usual. If something is prepared for it, two things happen:

  • A Prepared card appears in the list of things you can do.
  • A line offers it directly — "You prepared: Dr Bennett" — and one tap loads it.

Inside, prepared items are split into what has not been said yet and what already has, so nothing gets asked twice and nothing gets forgotten.

Nothing expires and nothing nags

Prepared discussions have no dates. Nothing is ever overdue, nothing turns red, and nothing is deleted automatically.

Once used, a discussion moves down into a used section rather than disappearing. If the same appointment comes round again, start it again — the same entry is reused rather than piling up copies.

Deleting one is always deliberate, and it asks first.

Why this works

It is not really about the list. It is that the thinking happened somewhere calm. A question worked out at your own table survives a room where a doctor is already looking at the clock — and the person holding the iPad does not have to compose anything under pressure.
