Phrases: the words already there

Typing takes time, and time is the thing a conversation does not give you. Phrases are sentences that are already written. One tap and they are spoken.

Eight boards, always the same eight

Open Phrases in any room and you get the same eight doors, in the same order, every time:

Body · Health · Food · People · Feelings · Money · Talking · Urgent

They never move and never rearrange themselves by how often something is used. That is deliberate: a door that moves is a door you have to find again, and someone reaching for Urgent should not have to hunt.

Inside a door, the room decides what sits at the top. At a pharmacy the health phrases most likely to matter come first — but the door is the same door.

A ninth door, Prepared, appears only when something has been prepared for that room, split into what has not been said yet and what already has.

Your own phrases

The ready-made ones are a starting point, not the whole vocabulary. Families have their own words.

What to add first

Not politeness. The things that are hard to say in the moment:

• The names of the people in their life
• What they take, and what they are allergic to
• The three or four things they say most often to family
• Anything that would be frightening to have to type slowly

A note on searching

There is no search inside the phrase boards yet. The boards are the way to find things — eight doors, always the same, which is faster than typing a search when your hands are shaking.
