At home, with family

Most of life is not appointments. It is the kitchen, the television, someone asking what you want for dinner — and that is where being unable to speak is loneliest.

Home works differently from a clinic, and Loquela knows the difference.

Everyone is already speaking the same language

At home the family probably speaks Spanish, and so does he. There is nothing to translate.

Tap the language pair at the top of the conversation to switch to one language on both sides. What he types is spoken in Spanish, to people who speak Spanish. Nothing goes anywhere to be translated.

This is a per-conversation choice. It does not change any setting, so the next appointment still works the way it should.

What is not there at home

Loquela deliberately offers less at home:

• No Introduce me — the family knows who he is.
• No What we talked about — home is not an appointment to be reviewed.
• Listen is hidden, unless hearing is part of the difficulty.

If hearing is part of it

If someone struggles to follow what is said across a room, turn on I have problems with hearing in Settings → Listening & speaking.

Loquela then writes down what people say even at home, in the language everyone already shares. Not a translation — just the words, on the screen, so nothing gets missed at a noisy table.

The thing that actually helps

Use it yourself, out loud, in front of them. Tap a phrase and let it speak while you are all in the room.

An app that only the person who cannot speak uses becomes a medical device on the table. An app everyone touches becomes a normal part of the house — and that is the difference between one that gets used and one that ends up in a drawer.
